Metallic carpentry increasingly used


Metal carpentry offers the possibility of having steel structures for all needs and areas of all types. As already mentioned in previous news, it is distinguished in heavy metal carpentry and light metal carpentry: the difference between the two alternatives must be identified in the sheet metal working process that is adopted in order to create the various structures.

When we talk about heavy carpentry, the needs of an industrial nature must be favored, i.e. that metal structures must be produced that can support the weight of canopies, walkways or even entire buildings, in practice the overlapping of different layers of metal sheets, placed one on the other, is what gives rise to the difference in lift of the various structures.

The stability and safety requirements of heavy carpentry also change from those of light carpentry.

The regulatory framework of belonging

UNI EN 1090 is the reference standard that indicates the requirements that must be met for the conformity assessment of the peculiarities of aluminum and steel structures.

In the circle of main requirements, mechanical strength, fatigue resistance, dimensional tolerances, durability, toughness, weldability, emission of hazardous substances, reaction to fire and impact resistance are highlighted.

The materials used for metal carpentry

The metal carpentry sector is extremely varied, precisely because it involves the construction of a wide range of structures. The so-called structural steel represents an effective and valid alternative to reinforced concrete, also because it allows the creation of more elaborate and therefore more personalized works.

Steel makes lightness one of its distinctive features, managing to combine functionality and safety. Depending on your needs, you can opt for simple carbon steels or for special steels intended for specific applications. Think, for example, of corten steel and stainless steel, which ensure optimal performance as regards the ability to resist corrosion.

Light metal carpentry

Resistance is also a feature required in the field of light metal carpentry, where sheets with reduced thicknesses are used. Precisely this specification allows you to benefit from unique designs that can be customized or modified to measure. The movable dividing walls and railings represent only two of the many examples of light carpentry works that can be mentioned: we are talking about elements for industrial or civil constructions, both internal and external. The list therefore also includes the walkways, shelving, doors and windows. How to get metal structures that are long-lasting and extremely resistant? For example by subjecting the sheets to an ad hoc process such as the galvanizing process.

Metallic carpentry solutions

The light and heavy metal carpentry makes it possible to satisfy any type of need in terms of construction of structures, with solutions for civil, industrial, agricultural, energy and sports use. There are as many solutions as the assortment of building structures is vast, with structural reinforcements, portals and reticular beams, which are used both for the redevelopment of existing buildings and for major construction works.
